Hello,

On December 16, the main electrical connection to our house and, at the same time, the telecom connection were installed. The electrical company now needs to report the completion of their work to the telecom provider. On December 23, I inquired when this would happen. Today, I was informed that it will not be done until the end of the month because the responsible colleague is on vacation. Do I have to accept this? Am I forced to wait, or can I speed up the process? I find this quite frustrating, especially since we plan to move in on January 24.

Best regards

To mention a positive example... with us, everything basically went smoothly, and we already had VDSL in the house on moving day. The final completion notification from the subcontractor to the telecom company would have taken longer (over 1 month, since the responsible employee was on vacation, tsk tsk) if I hadn’t called the telecom company and pushed them a bit. The telecom company then contacted the subcontractor (who had installed our main distribution frame) and obtained the completion confirmation. Three days later, the telecom company called me to say they had everything now. I had already registered the plan (Magenta Zuhause M) and my move-in date with the telecom company about a month in advance. Regularly calling and asking for updates also helps. The technician arrived as scheduled and even called beforehand!

Does anyone have experience with the alternative of no wired connection, but everything wireless? Vodafone offers landline and internet via radio and LTE for home use. Our house is 100 m (330 feet) in a straight line from their radio mast. Coverage is excellent, 4G shows on the display. But does it work as a replacement for landline and DSL? Has anyone tried this?

Yes, it works, BUT:

These contracts usually include relatively low data allowances. It's fine for email, browsing (calls are handled via mobile network anyway, not the data network), and watching two YouTube videos. But if you stream Netflix every evening and download games at the same time, you will quickly reach the limit. It’s not suitable for that use.

So check the data limits beforehand. The speed should be fast enough for most applications if the coverage is good.

I don’t see any need for that if a wired solution is available. If that doesn’t work, I would look into the product from Telekom with LTE Boost (Magenta hybrid) – the LTE option included there offers unlimited data volume.

Thank you, we can leave this side topic here. I was at the Vodafone store. The salesperson quietly advised against it. 4G is available, but there is a data limit. Even more importantly, Vodafone’s network here in the town struggles a lot under the summer holiday crowd; it sometimes collapses. Then, at the end of July, you’d be at the house with no connection at all. Stability only returns after the autumn holidays. He said saving money is good, but not in this case. Okay, fair advice. So, now I will contact the Magenta homeowner service.
