Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

A common mistake is being too afraid to invest enough during house construction and oversaving. The result is costly retrofitting and missing out on many things you could have afforded and wanted.
No, it’s not a mistake. Keeping reserves is completely fine. And if new enthusiasm for something new arises later, that’s great for one’s quality of life.

If it can be retrofitted, it is not a direct mistake, but if you choose cheap DIY store doors out of fear of saving money, then it is. A friend of mine regrets deeply not having chosen solid carpenter-made doors; now he hears children’s noise and music throughout the entire house.

There are hardly any things easier to replace than an interior door. So it probably can’t be that bad.

But afterwards, you often notice things you’ve invested in (even if it was just a lot of time) that turn out to be rather useless or irrelevant in everyday life, or things you neglected and would have preferred to handle differently. Few people can manage to do the best of everything (and first, you have to know what the best is and find someone who can deliver it).

What is roughly the price difference per door compared to custom carpenter doors versus off-the-shelf doors?

A standard door costs about 350 euros, while a carpenter-made door is around 500 euros. So, approximately 50% more.

The difference is not whether a "carpenter" or another type of company/supplier produces it. The question is how the door leaf is constructed. If it only has a honeycomb core, it simply lacks the necessary mass.
