Hello everyone!

On our ground floor, we will have only three interior doors from the hallway to the other rooms; otherwise, the layout is quite open. Now we are wondering if two of these three doors are actually necessary. Of course, we need the door to the bathroom, but what about the doors to the kitchen and the living room – are they really needed, or could these openings just remain open?

What do you think? Are doors needed here for visual, thermal, or any other reasons?

Thanks in advance!

I am a fan of open floor plans. I personally wouldn’t need those two doors.

We have a sliding door leading to the living/dining area. It is usually open, but when cooking, closing the door helps to contain the odors within the room. This was the best solution for us.

It depends on your personal taste. I think having the three doors is great, but you could also just install the one for the bathroom.

I wouldn’t need the one for the kitchen; in my opinion, the one for the living room creates a sense of calm there, which I find positive. It probably depends on the typical daily routine or routines of the residents to what extent the absence would be disruptive.

Then it would be better to consider having the staircase in the living room, as there should be very little noise coming from the front door anyway 😉
