daytonaHello everyone,
we are currently considering the minimum opening dimensions for both interior and exterior doors. We are a bit uncertain, especially regarding the height. We are both quite tall at 1.88 meters (6 ft 2 in), and a colleague recommended allowing a bit more height.
Our general contractor has specified a clear height of 1.98 meters (6 ft 6 in). Do you think this is too low, also from an aesthetic point of view? What are your experiences with door heights and widths?

For interior doors, it’s best to stick to the standard size. Deviating from it will eventually cause problems.
You should choose between 198 cm (78 inches) or 210 cm (83 inches). If you go for 210 cm (83 inches) tall doors, the ceilings should also be higher.
I am 194 cm (76 inches) tall, and 198 cm (78 inches) high doors are completely sufficient.
Why should you stay with the standard? Because otherwise, costs can quickly become very high.
For exterior doors, the clear height can be different since they are usually custom-made anyway.
However, 210 cm (83 inches) is typically the chosen height.

I find a width of 85cm (33 inches) very comfortable. If it gets narrower, I find it quite uncomfortable.
If you have the appropriate ceiling height, there is nothing against installing 2.10m (6 ft 11 in) high doors. But I would rather go with the standard size of 198cm (78 inches). :-)

On the ground floor, we chose 2.30 meters (7 feet 6 inches) for the door height, and 2.10 meters (7 feet) for the rest – we’re not particularly tall, but it looks better visually. The price difference between 2.00 meters (6.6 feet) and 2.10 meters (7 feet) is almost negligible.
