Hello everyone,
We are considering replacing the doors since we are also planning to refinish the floors and paint. Due to a limited budget, we are thinking about keeping the doors in the basement or possibly painting the door frames and only replacing the door panels. I suspect the surface is a plastic veneer (see photo), probably not wood. For the basement, affordable door panels from a hardware store would probably be sufficient. Upstairs, our renovation contractor recommended Prüm doors. My question is: How do these differ from, say, the better hardware store doors?

Here are photos showing the entire door

I believe your door issue has already been addressed. I had recommended self-adhesive film. Otherwise, I would have left the basement as it is for now.

We have now removed the doors on the ground floor at least and will be replacing them. I am currently looking into which doors might be suitable. Most have long delivery times and no stock available. I have looked at Prüm and Herholz. As a layperson, I don’t see any quality differences. All I want are simple white interior doors. I have read that CPL tends to be more durable than painted MDF, but either would be fine for me. Now I have come across Kilsgaard. These are mainly sold at garden center chains. Are they inferior to the other manufacturers, or are there quality differences? They are somewhat, though not significantly, cheaper. An advantage is that these stores often still have them in stock. Does anyone have experience with Kilsgaard?

Naughty, naughty spell check "correction"?
Uh... yes... well originally these doors might have been treetops... but of course, I actually mean home improvement stores 🙂

Every manufacturer offers a wide range of qualities. The manufacturer itself doesn’t really matter.

Doors come in options such as solid core board, MDF, hollow core board, honeycomb core, solid wood, and other types. The manufacturer is not very important. You just need to know what kind of door you want.

Hollow core board doors are very lightweight but less durable compared to solid wood doors. They are usually the most affordable option. It’s always a matter of personal preference. If you want inexpensive and attractive doors and need several of them, I would consider buying them from Poland. However, these doors don’t fit standard German door frames (jambs). You would need to replace the entire frame.

Otherwise, I buy doors from specialized retailers. It’s more expensive but also good quality.

Kilsgaard are doors made by Jeld Wen. They are sold under this name at Bauhaus.
Last year, I installed these doors throughout the entire ground floor and am very satisfied.
