We have a dishwasher like that too, but it only opens automatically in the Eco program.Since I saw that comment, I’ve been thinking about it, but I can’t figure out: WHAT EXACTLY is the purpose of a dishwasher that opens by itself!? Of course, the Eco program dries faster because of the lower temperatures. But it does that for us as well with the door closed.

If installed incorrectly, the door becomes a hazard.
At my brother’s place, the door slams down so hard that they have to put a cushion underneath.

At my brother’s place, it hits the floor so hard that they have to put a cushion underneath. Normally, it only opens a small gap, so it would never reach the floor. At least that’s how it works with our dishwasher, which I find quite practical. If you run it while at home, you can put the dishes away completely dry afterward. It’s a gimmick and not essential, but why not 😀
Our new Siemens dishwasher only opens a little bit automatically. I find that very practical as it saves energy. One from AEG, which we recently bought for someone, works the same way.

Alessandro17 Nov 2022 08:28It was only supposed to open a crack. However, if the kitchen fitter installs the wrong hinges, the door will swing open completely and crash to the floor, potentially damaging everything underneath :p
We also have a dishwasher with a "opening brake" (I didn’t even know there were models where the door doesn’t open slightly by itself). The lock is located in a plastic strip that slides out about 10cm (4 inches) when the washing cycle finishes and the dishes need to dry. To fully open the door, you then push it upwards and can move the door downwards. (Our door also has no special covering that might make it too heavy.) (This "single-step opening mechanism" can’t simply be pulled out for a photo. It only seems to reveal itself voluntarily after the work is done.)
