Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Fridge with a beer tap? That’s what I thought, and I believe my @Pinkiponk mentioned making some sort of deal with her better half about one...

The things that exist… I had completely forgotten about that 😀

What is that large appliance in the corner of the kitchen? It has such unusual valves...

That’s a regular refrigerator that my husband converted into a "beer fridge" as a hobby brewer. One of our running jokes is that after just a few days of marriage, he asked me if I minded him drilling "two small holes" in our fridge. ;-) I then suggested he buy a new fridge instead of "drilling holes" in our only one. ;-)

Looks practical ...
Red beer and blue beer?
No, seriously: Two different types?

Yes, usually one pilsner and one India Pale Ale. Sometimes also wheat beer.

This year, the façade will be insulated as follows.
16 cm EPS foundation insulation up to 80 cm (31.5 inches) above ground level or 10 cm (4 inches) below the window sill, reinforced and then covered with old klinker slips.
Above that, 12 cm (5 inches) of mineral wool (nothing else available) with a wooden substructure and larch cladding with floorboards/baseboards, along with Scandinavian-style window boxes. (I didn’t feel like drawing them all, so they are missing from the sketch, and I couldn’t find a vertical wood pattern as a texture.)

At the moment, the foundation is insulated all around once, and the klinkers are at least installed over 25 linear meters / 20 m² (215 sq ft) of the total 35 m² (377 sq ft). Joint mortar is on order.
Downpipes will, of course, be replaced as well. The roof is old but that doesn’t matter since the ceiling of the upper floor is insulated and the attic is unheated. So it will probably remain like that, although it might be thoroughly cleaned again to match the new façade.

Current status: 50% of the house is finished. This summer’s vacation unexpectedly involved a lot of traveling, so so far I’ve only worked on the project occasionally in the evenings for 1–2 hours and sometimes 1–3 hours on weekends. Applying the klinker mortar is actually quite a relaxing job if the seating is comfortable and there’s no time pressure. So far, about 140 work hours have gone into 100 m² (1,076 sq ft). Only a few moldings above the windows in the last photo and the downpipes are left. The downpipes are already on site; I just need to cut and install them, which should take about 3–4 hours in total.
The old blue wooden fence will be replaced by summer, but it has to stay for now so the chickens don’t escape (they can’t fly).
By the way, the pink chalk on the moldings is a test by my daughter to see how it looks. If it turns out well, I might paint the entire house that way 🙂

Now, by the end of November, the second half will be insulated with EPS (30 m² / 323 sq ft) and clad with substructure and insulation (70 m² / 753 sq ft), with plaster or membrane and battens applied. That will go quickly, and in winter I will see how warm it gets and when I can continue with the klinker installation.

Hey, that looks really cool. I like the combination of this brickwork and wood. Stylish!
