Hello everyone!

I’m a bit frustrated right now and hope you can help me.

A few weeks ago, I installed my Faktum fitted kitchen; part of this is an Ikea Hjälpsam dishwasher made by ELECTROLUX.

Earlier today, I thought it would be a good idea to clean a soap dispenser in the dishwasher.

After about 20 minutes, when I happened to enter the kitchen again, I was faced with a huge foam mess. The (actually small amount of) remaining soap in the dispenser had expanded into an enormous foam mountain coming out of the dishwasher.

After I panicked and turned off the water supply, and carefully cleaned the foam out of the kitchen, I wanted to drain the remaining foam from the machine by running it empty.

What surprised me at first: The drain pump kept running continuously, even with the main power switch turned off. Also, the selected programs are canceled after a short time.

A look in the manual and a brief internet search revealed: The Aqua Stop safety system was triggered due to the water and foam leakage; this is why the drain pump runs nonstop.

Now that the cause has been eliminated, the machine is still stuck in “Aqua Stop” mode.

How can I reset this? I’d rather not call customer service, wait forever, and have to spend a fortune.

Can anyone help?

Best regards and many thanks,

Matthias

Hi,

I think you will probably need a technician to come and take a look.

The dishwasher likely "thinks" that the foam still inside the machine is water and stays in that mode until it is gone. So maybe wait a few days and completely disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply; the problem might resolve itself. Otherwise, call the support hotline, as the drain pump may have burned out.

Best regards,

Na.

Hello everyone!

Luckily, the problem is relatively easy to fix – I just got it done.
The dishwasher has a plastic tray under the loading area where you put the dishes; this tray contains the float that causes the machine to stop working. The float works just like a fishing bobber. When water rises (or gets in there), the float rises as well. As it rises, it triggers a kind of electronic safety switch. For the machine to get water again and operate properly, the water in this tray needs to drain, and the float must return to the bottom of the tray. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.

0. DISCONNECT POWER!
1. Remove all dishes and especially any foam from the dishwasher.
2. Remove any kitchen panel at the bottom.
3. If you lie on the floor now, you can see, under the door, a metal panel behind which the motor and the float are located. This panel is a wide piece of metal fixed with 6 screws. Simply remove all 6 screws with a Phillips screwdriver, and the panel will come forward. The metal sidewalls will move outward slightly since the screws no longer hold them – don’t be alarmed.
4. Here you will see various hoses, electrical wires, etc. Do not touch these!
5. I slowly and carefully pushed in almost a whole kitchen paper towel roll (unrolled, of course) and waited until it soaked up the water.
6. After all the foam and water are gone, you can see, at the back right, a sort of white Styrofoam loop (which floats very well). If you gently touch it, you will hear a click when you lift it slightly. THIS is the part that interrupted the contact and disabled your dishwasher. Since you removed the water and foam, this part should now lie at the bottom again.
7. The aquastop is now deactivated.
8. Screw everything back on and start the empty machine on an easy wash program.
Done!

Best regards from Vienna!

Stefan

P.S. The dishwasher does not need to be removed or tilted! The only thing that needs to come off is the panel at the bottom between the support legs!

Just as a note:
There is a real possibility that following Stefan’s instructions could void the warranty.
Maybe it’s better to contact customer service first.

I’ve experienced this before as well. Just as kuechenman described: simply dry out the drip tray. The same problem can sometimes occur if too much rinse aid was spilled during filling – then the whole machine foams over and the float does exactly what it’s designed to do – and the dishwasher keeps pumping out without stopping.

So, many thanks to the creative people in this group!
I followed the instructions – nothing loses its warranty if you work carefully – and now the dishwasher runs just as before!
Great – saved time and nerves!
