Hello,

Since our old dishwasher broke down, we bought an XXL dishwasher from Neff.

As we plan to get an IKEA kitchen (Metod) within the next 12 months, I’ve done some research and am now quite overwhelmed with information. Unfortunately, I can’t find clear details on whether this dishwasher can be fitted into our new Metod kitchen.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Best regards and thanks in advance

By the way, the appliance dimensions are: 86.5 cm x 59.8 cm x 55.0 cm (34.1 x 23.5 x 21.7 inches).

Adjustable plinth/base Horizontal and vertical
Plinth/base adjustable by (mm) 40-90 / 90-160 mm (1.6-3.5 / 3.5-6.3 inches)

Hello,

Actually, for a completely trouble-free installation, you need an XXL with a variable hinge.

Hi jelimi,

but that is higher than the rest of the countertop, isn’t it?

We actually wanted everything to be on the same level. The Metod worktop height without the countertop is 88cm (35 inches), right? Then the 86.5cm (34 inches) XXL dishwasher should fit, shouldn’t it?

As you have it, it would suit us. How did you do that? With an additional part from Ikea?

Thank you

Hello
As with all Siemens and Bosch appliances, the Neff dishwasher also has the issue that the maximum height of the front panel must not exceed 775mm (30.5 inches), see the dimensional drawing. However, the Metod front panel is 800mm (31.5 inches) high. If the front panel were attached directly to the dishwasher door, it would protrude too far at the bottom and would hit the appliance when opening the door. This means the dishwasher door could not be fully opened.
Additionally, Neff specifies that the minimum plinth height must not be less than 90mm (3.5 inches), but the Metod plinth is 80mm (3.1 inches). The plinth height is not such a big problem because, for example, in my kitchen, the lower edge of the front on the adjacent cabinets is about 85mm (depending on how the cabinet height is adjusted with the feet), so only 5mm of plinth height are missing. If needed, there could be a 5mm offset. It might also be possible to slightly adjust the fronts of the adjacent cabinets (drawers) upwards, reducing the offset to just a few millimeters.
However, the main problem remains the maximum front height of 775mm (30.5 inches)!
There are the following possible solutions to install the Neff dishwasher in the Metod kitchen:
1.) Using Behjälplig: The front panel slides along rails attached to the dishwasher door when opening, similar to the sliding door of a refrigerator. Several users here in the forum have used this, and there are some experiences and photos available. Some claim it works well, but there are also reports of problems (front panel too heavy, mechanism disengages).
2.) Stefan method: The dishwasher is adjusted with the adjustable feet as low as possible so that a gap of about 2.5cm (1 inch) is created between the top edge of the dishwasher and the underside of the countertop. This gap accounts for the missing centimeters from 775mm (30.5 inches) to 800mm (31.5 inches). The gap is filled with wooden boards from the inside. Then the front panel is firmly mounted to the dishwasher door but protrudes above it to the underside of the countertop, that is, the front panel extends slightly above the dishwasher door.

I consider both solutions to be "workarounds" that should function but have their quirks. If I already had a dishwasher and wanted to install it in a Metod kitchen, I would choose one of these two solutions and try both myself. The Behjälplig costs only about 25 euros, so I would definitely buy and test that first.
However, if, like me, you still need to purchase a dishwasher model, you should choose an XXL model WITH VARIO HINGE. This allows the front panel to be mounted directly on the dishwasher door and will fit without additional measures.

All the details mentioned above can be read here

though the discussion spans many pages.

Thank you very much for the clear information.

It convinced me to return the dishwasher.

Now I’m more confused than ever. We don’t necessarily need an extra-large dishwasher. The only reason we would exclude an IKEA dishwasher is that we want a cutlery drawer.

Do I always need a variable hinge or only for extra-large dishwashers? I’m really starting to feel frustrated.

Edit: OK, I’ve just discovered the Välgjord. It wasn’t available in our original kitchen plan. It will probably come down to this one.
