Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

There is no simpler method to apply a coating evenly on a structure like a railing, which has many edges and weld seams.
My steel stringers were painted—three thick coats in total. It was very time-consuming, mainly due to drying times.
In comparison, powder coating is an easier process.
It’s also much more durable overall.

Are you sure about that? As far as I know, painting is generally more durable. Usually, you apply more material. You can paint the railing on site. I don’t know why you had to do three coats. We applied a primer and then one topcoat. Also, for large parts, you first need the right equipment. Powder coating is known to me as the more expensive option.

Yeah, much better. That plain gray with those 70s-style decorative tiles... that’s just not done anymore. The accents with black frames and green fixtures... very modern!

😉
I would have guessed around 20 years ago, like 2000 or so. White tiles were popular then, with black and white combinations. Or am I mistaken? In the 70s, there were light green and beige colors and pine wood on the ceiling. Well done @Schimi1791

That’s pretty close 🙂

... although ... the tilers did the real work. I just "paid" 🙂

With paint, you’re more likely to get chipping and scratches, for example if it hits a wedding ring. It needed to be painted three times to achieve proper coverage because the surfaces are white. I think you know my railing. Painting it would have been much more labor-intensive than powder coating.

Yes, that is correct. It might be true for your railing.

Furthermore... powder coating is much thinner than paint. And practically impossible to touch up invisibly. White might be a special case. If you have a "regular" flat steel railing, primed and painted once... done. These are special paints. They are very durable. I’m not a professional either, but I have heard from several sources that powder coating is usually more delicate and more expensive. (This might not apply to industrial mass production.) That’s why your statement surprised me. It’s the first time I’ve heard that.
