Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I'm a fan of symmetry.^^ A few millimeters wouldn't bother me that much, but this protrudes by about 1cm (0.4 inches).

There is no real symmetry anyway, and 1cm (0.4 inches) is just 10mm (0.4 inches).
I would leave it as is. 1. In my opinion, it does not bother, 2. it probably won’t improve other areas if you try to fix this. I wouldn’t sand or cut it either.
It’s not relevant to me.
Nice staircase, fitting the country house style.

I almost think it would be easier to visually extend the parapet here. Attach some kind of panel (drywall?) and then repaint it.

With baseboard molding, that works perfectly! Everything else would be a mess.

He is right about that; if a baseboard is installed and it sticks out, you would constantly hit it with your right little toe when going upstairs. At least, that would happen to me regularly...

That was exactly my idea! I would ask the drywall installer if adding a trim piece on top would still work.

A thin layer of plaster is acceptable if necessary, and having the baseboard flush with the wall saves time and effort, resulting in a neat appearance.
