ᐅ Staircase Drawers: Should They Be Installed Before or After the Staircase Is Built?

Since I saw useful built-in drawers integrated into stairs on Pinterest, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them.

We will have a staircase with risers. The general contractor honestly said that they could install such drawers for us, but the price would probably be cheaper with a carpenter or similar.

Does anyone have experience with this?

I’m considering whether to add the drawers later or if there are companies that offer a more affordable complete solution (seems like it). However, this could be risky for warranty issues if an external company installs the staircase and there are problems in the stair area...

Even if you had drawers made afterward, the carpenter would have to change so much that the general contractor’s warranty would probably become void anyway.
So if you want drawers, have it done properly right from the start, by someone experienced who has done this before.
If necessary, even pay more through the general contractor.
I would have liked that too, but since we have winders on the stairs for the entry and exit, it’s difficult to fit drawers there. (We later had the wardrobe customized to fit under the stairs.)

Thank you all for your answers!!
I’m wondering if there could be complications if the staircase is installed by a different company.
For example, if the general contractor adjusts the spacing of the interior walls slightly from the original plan, the staircase might no longer fit—unless it is fully built on site.
Or are wooden staircases generally constructed on site anyway?
My question may seem a bit naive.

When you order a staircase from a stair builder or carpenter, they will of course come to take measurements... then cut the parts in their workshop and assemble it at your place.

No, that’s not naive; it’s well thought out because drawers have different tolerances than walls. Stairs and drawers are built based on precise measurements.

We are also working with a general contractor and having the staircase delivered and installed externally. I don’t see where there could be a warranty issue in that.

Thank you all! We will request quotes and then make a decision.
@Kekse When craftsmen come from "multiple sources," I always worry that accidents might happen (something gets damaged... a scratch on the wall...) for which no one takes responsibility. Basically, I prefer "all from one source" if possible.
