Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

The earthworks alone for the site preparation already cost as much as my entire house.

I’d say I’m currently facing the “cheaper death.” Excavating a basement level with a raised terrace would have cost me €40,000 (about $44,000), but with the soil compaction and the additional 28 meters (about 92 feet) of L-shaped retaining wall blocks around the terrace and carport, it’s "only" €30,000 (about $33,000). The landfill costs for the basement excavation spoil are not included in that!

The lower L-shaped blocks don’t belong to me.

We are using local larch.

And the exterior walls are up!

The west side is still missing here:

Here it is:

And from the inside:

View of the north facade from inside. At the top is the bathroom window, to the left are the toilet and pantry, and the long kitchen window is at countertop height.

AND I HAVE TO SIT HERE IN THE OFFICE AND FIDGET!
*crying*
When I see the wooden facade, I always think of three houses nearby that look about 50 years old, even though they are only 8 years old. How is the wood protected?

Yes, when wood gets old and gray, it looks really bad. How do you protect it? Do you use a special wood stain?

Larch naturally turns gray over time. This is normal.
