Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Exactly, the larch remains natural and weathers to a gray. We like that, but it is certainly not to everyone’s taste.

Installing the façade in advance was also an option to make use of the time. The crane operator was at another construction site yesterday, where time was used in that way.

Larch turns natural gray. That’s how it is.

Is that unavoidable? I’m thinking of people who would prefer honey tones forever—could that be "preserved"?

Yes, for a while with olassy from Remmers. Not permanent without repainting. UV rays degrade everything; the gray color is the wood’s natural protection.

That works really quickly.
But it’s meant to be that way.
If you don’t like it, please don’t use wood.

If you want to avoid the gray color, you definitely shouldn't choose larch. There are other, more affordable types of wood available, especially if you plan to repaint every two years anyway.

Larch does turn gray over time, but as Karsten already mentioned, this is a natural protective effect. It remains durable even without constant repainting. If you plan to paint it anyway, larch isn’t necessary. Didn’t we already discuss this in the wood decking thread?
