Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Well, the enjoyment is over. I have more patience than my husband, but even I honestly don’t feel like it anymore. It’s like during pregnancy—in the end, it’s annoying and you just want it to be over, in this case to have it behind you and finally be inside.

Here, partly wood/aluminum and partly uPVC aluminum, with DB703 on large south-facing areas (for example, a 5-meter (16.4 feet) lift-and-slide door facing south in wood/aluminum). Everything without creaking, warping, or any issues.

(In terms of both material and construction) high-quality wood/aluminum building components for homeowners wanting genuine wood surfaces on the interior sides are unfortunately more expensive than fully aluminum units, but flawless in performance. The fact that these two materials behave very differently causes problems if the aluminum is not sufficiently free-floating on the wood and/or if wood qualities actually suitable for window construction are used (the latter is common when targeting prices close to uPVC). Which manufacturer(s) are your units from?

The wood-aluminum windows are from Unilux, and the uPVC-aluminum ones are from Weru. So far, there is nothing to complain about. The door is quite heavy, which would have been very different with uPVC in this size. But for such a large element, we didn’t want to look at the thick "plastic frames" from the inside. I would definitely do it the same way again. The long-term test will show whether we still think this way in a few years...

For us and all our acquaintances, the front door is made of wood... so neither aluminum nor plastic.

The front door is made entirely of aluminum. I would never choose plastic again, either. Just like with plastic windows: after a while, they simply start to look worn out – despite good maintenance.

I consider that to be incorrect. It does not have to be that way. Both the windows and doors of our semi-detached house made of plastic were white and intact when sold in 2016. The house was built in the mid-1990s.
