Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, drone, I also made a deal with the earthworks contractor right away. I will make a promotional video for him, and he will adjust the price [emoji106]

Make sure to get written permission from the neighbors. Since this now has a commercial purpose, I would also recommend registering the flight times with the local authority (e.g., building permit/planning permission office).

When we filmed for E.ON (as I mentioned), everything had to be officially approved. Not for us, but for the production company.

Just a heads-up... at least ask the neighbors!

Yes, I am familiar with the procedure... but I didn’t even have to ask the neighbors, they just said: “Drone? Cool... can you film my house from above sometime?”

Here are two progress photos of our construction. Unfortunately, work has slowed down a bit because there weren’t enough Poroton blocks delivered, but an excess of sand-lime bricks for the upper floor. This has caused a delay of about 2-3 weeks, in addition to the setbacks we already had due to the frost. Well, nothing can be done about that.

What I’m still curious about is the following. We can already see the window openings, but the different sill heights are not yet visible. I thought this might have been done incorrectly and asked about it. The site manager says this is normal; the planned sill heights will only become visible later. I’m wondering why these window openings are visible now then. For example, the kitchen window facing the front will have a sill height of 1.25 m (4 feet), but the window frame currently starts well below one meter.

I hope they continue with the ground floor this week, even though it’s not 100% finished yet.

This is actually quite common. The stones are then cut to fit the individual sill heights. It is standard practice because it means there is no need to think while laying the masonry. All windows are built up to the lowest height, and then a cut-to-size row of stones is placed on top. I see this on construction sites very often, and as mentioned, it gives the masons the advantage of being able to work continuously without having to worry. They still have to come back before the window installation to plaster and seal the reveals and support surfaces so that the windows can be properly installed.

Isn't there a standard rule that bricks or blocks should overlap by one-third of their length when being laid or bonded? Because the way you describe it, that single row of bricks would have no stability at all.
