Grillhendl16 Jul 2020 09:47The house is built in a village. My original dream was for it to be surrounded by a wildflower meadow. However, this didn’t work out in front of the porch (there was an issue with the soil preparation), so I reseeded with grass to avoid a weed-covered area. This is how it was supposed to look initially, like in this picture.

However, I don’t like embankments, so this area in front of the house will be replaced by a dry stone wall. These stones will come from the demolition of the old family farmhouse (fieldstones, granite, and whatever else can be found there).

My dream for the garden is a wildflower meadow with a separate cottage garden enclosed by a picket fence. Most likely, though, wild rose hedges will be necessary because deer and wild boars frequently browse and root around here.
Lately, I’ve been driving through many new housing developments, and I believe the trend is moving towards a “garden of horror” for insects. That is something I definitely want to avoid here, and I wouldn’t like it either.
Right now, I am really enjoying the view from the kitchen window with its incredible number of butterflies and bees in the wildflower meadow. It’s also low-maintenance.

It's pretty cool to have so much space all around you!!I think everything has its pros and cons.Sometimes I feel that the house on the hill seems a bit isolated (among all the farmsteads), and I've stopped watching crime shows alone...
However, you also get complete peace and quiet (even though there is a hiking trail nearby and we still have relatively active farming in the area).
