I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

I’m curious to see if it will really be too tight. If that turns out to be the case, there will eventually be another perennial bed where the "excess" can be placed. For now, the main goal is to establish a basic framework and to have something blooming, as well as surviving the first year.

Karsten, your garden looks great and, above all, finished.

One year really makes a big difference.
Why didn’t you lay bark mulch between the plants?

Fummelbrett, I hope it will look like this at our place one day.

My mother and mother-in-law also always say less is more. I’m allowed to thin out a bed. At the latest next year.

My wife says the mulch is not necessary.
The flowering trees are quite pretty, very, very pretty. K.

Mulch creates an acidic environment, which not all plants tolerate.

Did you also have any requirements about which plants you have to use? We have such requirements as compensatory measures for the house. Our plot borders a field at the back, and we have to plant two rows of hedges with three trees in between. Plus, two deciduous trees on the property. The types of hedges and trees are specified as well (usually about 3-5 native species for each). The rest of the property can then be planted more freely.

-Thank you, Ms. Müller, I didn’t know that. So, don’t cover roses with mulch. Wood chips are better? - No planting regulations have been issued here. Do as you like.

Yes, the garden is finished for now, but hey, it’s never really finished. What was important to us was not to live in a new-build desert but to have some greenery quickly.
There are plans that Ms. Nordlicht has already discussed with the landscape gardener. A mowing edge to the embankment made of square granite pavers, laid flush with the ground. We want to create a small gravel area on top, opposite the garden shed in the other corner, with an iron bench or something similar. But not yet, the bushes on the embankment still need to grow, right now you still get blown away up there. I would also like a small fountain with a half-dressed goddess drawing water with an amphora, and a dolphin spouting water into the fountain... or something like that. But that’s not a majority decision yet. I love the old tragedies, the Oresteia, King Oedipus, and so on, and the figures in them. Karsten
