I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

What does frost-proof with a foundation mean? The planting pots? No, we just placed them into the slope as stabilizers. The stone wall is simply stacked without mortar; the rocks are really heavy, so nothing will move. The elevation on the property ranges from about 27.5 to 28 meters (90 to 92 feet) at the bottom up to 30 meters (98 feet) at the top, with around 30 meters (98 feet) in between. Karsten

Well, I had searched online and it said to have a frost-proof foundation at the bottom and to compact frost-proof gravel on the slope as well. That sounded like quite a bit of work to me!

Hmm, the joints in the walls around our garden beds are also open joints. However, there is a deep gravel bed underneath. I am quite sure that no cement slurry is mixed in there.

It probably also depends on the base/foundation. The old retaining wall, which is up to 3 meters (10 feet) high, has no foundation. This used to be common practice because the ground is rocky.

The new walls all rest on concrete or on the old foundation stones.

Something different to make you smile, get annoyed, or wonder. Gardens of horror. Take a look at this website.....

... I have been following them on FB for a long time, and I rarely have to smile. It is usually a mix of disbelief, anger, and shock.
