I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Father Frost. It's always been like that.Is he still alive? If so, give him a little breath of life. Two local weather sayings.
“Den Winter verwirfts” means that snow at the end of November or beginning of December does not predict a winter.
“Der Februar macht Seins” means that February brings cold weather and snow.
White Christmases are also a myth here.
I’m also glad that the rain is not snow. Last week there was 10cm (5 inches) of snow and the first snowman was made. It is expected to be white again in a week.

Heard on the radio yesterday about whether there is any truth to the “there used to be snow more often at Christmas” myth. The result: No!
Since weather records began, there have been white Christmases in Germany every 8 years on average. This varies regionally. On the Zugspitze it has always been snowy, while in NRW only every 10 years.

White Christmas? In my memories, we often had white Christmases when I was a child. So, in the 1980s. At least for two years in a row – I remember because I got skis for the first Christmas. Orange and made of plastic. Test run on Christmas Eve on our street. Unfortunately, I crashed into a fence, and one ski broke. That caused tears... And the following year, there were skis again at Christmas. The test runs on Christmas Eve, however, became noticeably more cautious. These Christmas celebrations took place in the Ore Mountains.
I almost fear it will snow over the Christmas holidays this year. Why? Because starting the day after Christmas, I have to return to work, and driving 150 km (93 miles) in a snowstorm at 6 a.m. is a much better wake-up call than a big cup of coffee.

So, as I recall, there used to be one or two snowy days around Advent, but Christmas Eve itself was usually green. Frost appeared more frequently at New Year's Eve. It then settled in from January until the end of February because the sea is too warm before that; during calm weather, fog tends to form instead of persistent frost. Just like yesterday. Today is sunny, still cool but not cold. When the sea temperature drops below 3°C (37°F), it gets interesting. The last severe frost we had was in January and February 2018.
