I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Anyone who wants to be “green” or even votes accordingly shouldn’t build or own a single-family home 😉 anything else is greenwashing

Where are we headed if we demand absolute consistency from each other—this creates unnecessary social pressure that takes away everyone’s freedom. Nobody has to do everything 100% rigidly, doctrinally, and without fault. Why shouldn’t a diesel driver buy organic meat? Why shouldn’t an enthusiastic cyclist delay replacing a working oil heating system? Why should a lawn enthusiast be denied a positive attitude toward environmental protection? Why shouldn’t a “green” person be allowed to build a house? This is quite a struggle where soon no one will be able to do anything properly because demands are raised immediately or the right thing is relativized.

If you don’t want to dig out the grass, then yes. Water sparingly but deeply, and regularly trim and fertilize. This gives the other grasses the best chance to take over the space from weakened annual grasses. However, I would recommend digging out and overseeding instead. How large is your area?

Someone who occasionally buys organic meat is certainly not necessarily “green.” A cyclist can also do it as a hobby…

Someone who votes green generally shares (at least to a large extent) the party’s views. And exactly in this context, the resource waste of a single-family house is just as inconsistent as flying for vacation purposes.
I don’t demand anything. Everyone must decide for themselves. Unfortunately, most voters are not that reflective or aware of the consequences. Even just the price increases and weakening of the economy are or will be dramatic.
When there are more unemployed people, the outcry is loud… and then others are blamed again.
Ultimately, it would mean giving up having children. But no one dares say that publicly.
We can’t save the world as long as India, China… don’t cooperate. Even if Germany were to “disappear,” the effect wouldn’t be sufficient. We can only make a small contribution. But destroying ourselves over it is not sensible.

I admit that I do not have a small ecological footprint. I certainly try to optimize here and there but am not willing to make compromises in some areas.

It’s ironic that most green voters today belong to the middle class and often own a single-family house.
Preach water, drink wine. (Environment Minister Untersteller was caught driving 177km/h (110mph) in a 120km/h (75mph) zone, Kretschmann’s S-Class, they could all just walk or cycle (without electric assistance), Baerbock’s secondary income, and so on.)

@bortel To remove annual weeds by mowing, you need to cut to about 1–5 cm (0.4–2 inches). Annual weeds can easily tolerate cutting heights below 1 cm (0.4 inches). Such low cutting heights are only achievable with reel mowers.

It’s a pity I can only give one like.

A garden is for everyone. Lawns are lifeless for insects but, for example, valuable play areas for children. I also have a lawn in my garden (well, sort of) and forsythia.
With almost every plant, we consider whether it can handle the weather, if it’s good for bees or birds, deadwood, and so on. Still, with some things, the question is whether we like it and if it suits us.

There are so many ways to save water, energy, and plastic, protect bees, and preserve biodiversity. Everyone can do quite a bit without personal sacrifices. Why does it always have to be extremes?
