I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Outdoor area at the house: blue underlay with red heating pipes, workers installing underfloor heating.

Supposedly, someone a few villages over has it too.

Why? I have never cleared the entire driveway. Neither at the new nor the old house. Just the sidewalk and maybe the parking spot or areas where cars have trouble.

I don’t live in the mountains, but I am familiar with snow and ice. When it’s light, it is removed with salt. If there is more, sand is spread on the cleared surface.

Sand doesn’t help with snow, but it works on ice.
Lava ash is really effective; it prevents slipping completely. Unfortunately, due to the lack of volcanoes, it is not available here.

We had that situation when we lived in Budapest for a few years, and I’ve also thought about it, but here it rarely snows enough to make it worthwhile. It’s also another story when it comes to energy efficiency.

A decent snow shovel would be fine, but the cheap one we inherited from the in-laws is just no good. Does anyone have experience with those shovels that have wheels? Are they any good?

Heating is extremely expensive. I have considered both electric heating and the central heating system in the house. Defrosting alone costs between 500-700€ (around 540-760 USD). Any caretaker service or purchasing and maintaining heating equipment is cheaper in comparison.
