B.Nutzerin31 Jan 2015 14:02Hello everyone,
We have the opportunity to buy a house. The location itself is great—especially in terms of our commute to work.
The house would also have a nice, large garden, which would be wonderful for our children.
However, I’m still a bit concerned about the orientation of the house. I roughly sketched the position of the house on the plot and attached the sketch. The house is located in the southeast corner of the lot. The plot borders a relatively busy road to the south (on the edge of town) and a less busy road to the east (entrance to the town). The garden is therefore to the north of the house, where a terrace could be placed.
Do you view this location as problematic? I find it particularly hard to judge, especially in winter, how much this would actually affect me.
I can’t say much about the house itself yet—we still need to visit it. But you naturally start thinking about these things.
Thanks in advance for your insights, ideas, and thoughts!

Remember the clearance zones to neighboring properties.
A garden facing north is naturally not ideal. But a garden facing south directly onto a busy street is no better. No one can make that decision for you. How much the noise will affect you can only be judged on site.
What personally bothers me about such corner lots is sweeping and shoveling snow 😉
The driveway should also be conveniently located... reversing out onto a busy street can be quite frustrating.

Thanks for the note regarding the driveway – we will pay attention to that.
The street in the village doesn’t have a sidewalk at all (very small village). I’m not sure if snow removal is required there.
Writing on the go – sorry for the typos
