Hello and good evening everyone,

I wanted to ask the group about the electrical connections you have installed or planned for the front yard area and those facing the garden.

For the front yard, I am currently considering only a single switchable power line for lighting, such as illuminated flower beds and/or pathway lighting. On the other side of the house, facing the garden, I am thinking of installing a switchable power line for lighting as well as a separate power line with a higher capacity to supply a potential garden shed, where several devices (refrigerator, TV, or whatever) might be connected. Additionally, there would be outdoor outlets directly on the house wall facing the garden—but how many would be sensible?

How have you set this up?

Each side of the house has one external water tap,
plus a line to the old basement.

3 power outlets in the front garden
3 power outlets at the back of the house
6 power outlets on the terrace/west garden
1 electrical line to the old basement.

At the top of the hill, the garden is additionally connected to the street water supply behind the house. Whether this is still possible nowadays, I have no idea.

Wow, that much?

It’s spread out nicely around the house, which saves walking back and forth—walking all around the house can be tiring, and the east side is simply too steep. During construction, the additional water and electricity didn’t really increase costs much because the locations of the water connections didn’t require significant extra piping work. We enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors, growing edible plants, chopping wood, or relaxing—sometimes quietly, sometimes socially.

Most people have more than what we initially planned. Could those of you with more connections please explain how you use them, or are, for example, the 6 power outlets on the terrace mostly unused?
This would help us better understand if and why more connections might be needed. Thank you!

Yes, you can never have enough sockets outside.

In the carport:
4x 220V, 1x 32A three-phase power

In the garden shed: sockets for various purposes
On the terrace: 2x 220V
In the garden: 5x 2.5 mm² (about 10 AWG) cables for lights, irrigation, and so on
At the gate/entrance: also 5x 2.5 mm² (about 10 AWG) for gate control, lights, etc.

It’s the same as in any apartment or house. Whenever you need an outlet, there isn’t one nearby. In the garden for: the table fan, the grass trimmer, phone charger cable, raclette/fondue at the garden table, electric mosquito repellent, Sonos, etc.

Good idea...

I also need a few more suggestions... the electrician is currently working at my place.
