Hello,

we are getting a basement made of waterproof concrete (WU concrete) and I would like to know how others handle the electrical installation with switches and sockets in such cases. With WU concrete, only surface-mounted installation is possible. For the utility basement rooms, that is fine for us, but we will also have two living rooms, and we cannot install everything on the masonry interior walls.

Therefore, my question is whether it is possible or advisable to build a pre-installation wall to solve this issue. I was thinking of a drywall (gypsum board) partition.

Surely I am not the only one with this problem, right? How have you solved it?

Hello,

I don’t quite understand the problem.

What is your basic basement wall construction?

We have a basement made of waterproof concrete with double-shell precast walls, which were assembled on site and then filled with concrete.

All our sockets and switches in the entire basement are installed flush, that is, within the concrete wall itself, without exception.

For this, it was necessary to lay the conduit pipes or cables between the assembly and the concrete pouring of the walls.

Regards,
Dirk

Hello Dirk,

thank you for your feedback. I didn’t know it was possible to install something in between. Our information was that only surface-mounted installations are possible in the basement. I will have to check on that again.

Question: Are all interior walls made of concrete? If not, can the majority of the wiring, switches, and sockets be installed there in the usual way? Otherwise, see Doc.Schnaggls.

Are these living areas no longer insulated? In our case, about 5cm (2 inches) of insulation was added to the exterior walls, and the wiring was installed there.

@tomtom79: Not necessarily. Our basement is insulated from the outside. So, the walls in the living areas are just typical plastered and wallpapered concrete walls.
