Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Why do so many houses in Germany look so boring? Gable roof, hipped roof, flat roof, no corners, no edges— as long as they are square, it’s considered good. Accordingly, the interior layouts are almost identical, similar to townhouses. Here is a general contractor from my area, Webb Brown Neaves. Where I live, people want houses to look attractive from the street. Kitchens are always located towards the garden side.

Well, many things are dictated by the development plan. For example, we have to (!) build a gable roof.

It was the same for us. I didn’t particularly like it. Fortunately, a hipped roof is considered a distinct type of gable roof.
Corners and edges can be quite impractical. In a square or rectangular house, you have almost all options inside.
In addition, every centimeter of a bay window costs a lot of money in proportion... too much money in my opinion.

It can be quite different: a square floor plan, here a small bay window, then on the east and south sides two extensions, and suddenly it is anything but boring.

I really like it a lot.
However, we would never use a balcony. We initially planned to include one but decided against it quite quickly.

The privacy of the balcony – or in this case the roof terrace – from neighboring houses and the view from it are directly related to its future use.
