Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

It was only supposed to open a crack. However, if the kitchen fitter installs the wrong hinges, the door can slam to the floor and crush anything underneath :p

Did the kitchen fitter install the hinges themselves? As far as I know, the cabinet usually already comes with hinges, and normally you can adjust how strong the spring tension is.
Maybe your brother can check the assembly instructions for the cabinet and adjust it himself?

Is this a semi-detached house, or did you deliberately choose to have one side clad in brick and the other not?

This is a semi-detached house, and our neighbors simply decided, shortly before the foundation slab was poured, that they preferred to have brick cladding.

Same architect, same construction company.
At least we were "kindly" asked if we also wanted brick cladding before they went ahead with their own preferences.
We declined because of the extra cost (about 7,000€).

This is somewhat unfortunate, but in my opinion, brick cladding for 7,000 EUR (about 7,000 USD) or 14,000 EUR (about 14,000 USD) for the entire house is quite affordable – wouldn’t you agree?

I don’t find the combination of brick veneer and render problematic. It often works very well on a house. Of course, the choice should be made together during the planning of two semi-detached houses and NOT changed unilaterally at short notice.

However, your base coat render seems to be applied very high, clearly above the underside of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Is that the final condition, or am I mistaken? Or why is it like that?
