We were told that nowadays, a crank handle is installed where no electric roller shutter is planned. Crank handle = enclosed housing, sealed.

Then it’s actually a big advantage that we don’t want a smart home or electric shutters.
We currently have the latter in our rental property, and just hearing the motor makes me lose interest. Well, we have installed pleated blinds on all our windows anyway, which I find much nicer than lowering shutters.
Only in the bedroom do we lower the roller blind in the evening, but luckily that’s done manually.

For our shutters, we didn’t even consider electric options since they are not available. However, using a crank is quite convenient, even though it’s not smart home compatible. Personally, I’m not a fan of smart home systems anyway... but it really depends on the type of house. For example, a Bauhaus-style home with a belt-driven roll shutter would look quite odd.

Today, our fence was finally completed.

Yes, I know a welded wire mesh fence is not exactly a design highlight. But with 100 meters (330 feet) in length, it just wasn’t financially feasible to do more.

The bird protection hedge is still missing as well. So it doesn’t really have the full effect yet.
