Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

That’s fine. At least with a power outage, you won’t be sitting in the dark.

I don’t understand why this is always being made fun of. We also have electric heating, but if we ever have a power outage in the morning, we’re definitely out of luck...

In the 5 years we have lived here, we have experienced 4 power outages. One lasted about 5 hours, while the others were resolved within 10 minutes. The power supply for the residential areas is designed as a ring network to ensure such outages do not last long.

I’m sure no one intends to make fun of it. However, a significant disadvantage of manually operated roller shutters is that they are difficult to integrate into a smart home system. Roller shutters and venetian blinds controlled intelligently help ensure the house doesn’t get too warm, especially in summer.

Integrating a Smart Home Concept
Here in the forum, about 20% of the houses have this, and across Germany maybe only 5–10%, right? So if there’s one thing we’ve learned, this forum is not a representative example for anything.

Electric roller shutters can be “secured” so that they still work during a power outage, for example with photovoltaic storage, UPS, or emergency generators.

In our case, the question didn’t even come up because we wouldn’t have had the option for manual straps. I wanted electric shutters anyway. Only with those is control possible, and once you have a certain number of shading devices, the increase in comfort is significant.
