Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, that’s what I mean, because it is uncommon to build a heated garage. But of course, it is not impossible.

Oh, of course, the garage is not part of the thermal envelope; otherwise, it would already be insulated, including the roof.

We insulated our garage. Inside, there is water supply and heating. Humidity is monitored via KNX, and if needed, a roof window opens slightly for ventilation.

Then the question is, what actually gave you the idea to insulate the roof? That would be quite pointless..

To keep the garage frost-free during winter, I also added insulation. Insulation installed, vapor barrier underneath... Result: garage stays frost-free in winter. However, in summer the insulation started to sweat. As a solution, I created ventilation between the insulation and the roof covering and replaced the vapor barrier with a variable vapor retarder. Now I hope it really works.

That’s exactly the point: the garage stays frost-free in winter, and you can work on projects without the heat from, for example, a gas heater being wasted immediately.

@hstkai, how did you handle the ventilation? Do you have some pictures of it?
