Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Now that’s an attitude. Hooray, hooray, hooray.

It’s a simple 6x3 m (20x10 ft) prefabricated garage. We got it complete for 6,000 euros. Considering the cost of a basement, it was an easy choice.
We only “have” one car, which is my wife’s company car. So it doesn’t necessarily need to be kept in a garage. If I had an expensive, rare car or a convertible with a fabric roof, it’d probably be a different story.

We have a floor-to-ceiling window in the bathroom (about 2x2m (6.5x6.5 ft)), fixed glazing with a roller shutter. Frosted window film is applied up to the halfway point. I would do it the same way again.

Your house (including the outdoor areas) can truly be considered exemplary, showing that a simple basic shape can be made more attractive than a patchwork design where corners are copied from every model home you see.

Cool lamp, Daniels87!
If you ever have trouble getting out of the bathtub, it can be quite useful too.

All good!
I am always against this connecting door... but most people want to drive into the garage, close the electric door, and then comfortably enter their house through that door. Most end up designing their house around this door with a lot of compromises. Nobody believes me when I say that it doesn’t work the way they imagine it so elegantly. Not with a 3 x 6 m (10 x 20 ft) garage, not with a utility room as a passageway in a house of about 130 m² (1400 ft²)... so a utility room just under 6 m² (65 ft²) or so.

That is the real problem with this connecting door: it usually wants to become the golden calf and the center of the floor plan world.
