Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

The lawn looks good... and not like the face of an old man.
Our lawn, which was seeded just a week ago, is already sprouting. At the moment, the weather is ideal for the lawn. Personally, I would prefer a proper summer.

The elderly man is somewhat obscured by the camera angle – we still need to do some reseeding (at the edge near the paving and also a bit here and there in the middle).

Modern detached house under construction, white facade, dark window frames, building plot in front of the entrance.

Just as a side note:
I wanted to build affordably—not cheaply... unfortunately, that didn’t work out!

What did it turn out to be in the end? More expensive than expected, or a lot of stress and questionable workmanship?
We don’t have such a fancy drain cover – ours are plastic.

P.S.: Did a huge bird mess up your window?

Mainly stress. We managed to scrape together the money for the numerous additional costs. But the frustration is still there!
As a layperson, I don’t want to judge the quality of the tradeswork. I can only share what two experts said:
partly shoddy workmanship, and it should be done differently.
Even in a new build, there have already been major mistakes – at some point, as the client, you just don’t want to deal with this company anymore.
It’s not normal to go to the construction site with a sinking feeling...
PS: The manhole cover is for a pumping station for wastewater.

Always remember that the building inspector is paid to find faults. Change orders are obviously a nuisance – but everyone has them, whether because a detail was missing in the scope of work, the ground was softer than expected, or it just had to be the hot tub after all.

I am sure you will find a lot of joy and peace in your home.
