Hello

About three weeks ago, I laid my new lawn. I have three questions regarding it:

1. The grass blades are now about 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) tall. How long should I wait before mowing for the first time?

2. There are still some bare patches (see picture). When is the best time to overseed these areas? Should I do it now or wait until after the first cut?

3. Meanwhile, some other plants are starting to grow among the grass (see picture 2). What is the best way to handle this? Pulling them out is difficult because they are still quite small.

Thanks in advance

Best regards & have a nice weekend

Apply some fertilizer now before the rain! Just a little—don’t overdo it. About a 5-liter (1.3 gallon) bucket for 250 m² (2,690 sq ft). No more than that.
Don’t mow yet. Don’t overseed yet. Raking will still cause too much damage.

And when exactly do you suggest? We’re expecting rain starting Monday. Would it be better to apply it today in the evening (once the strongest sun is gone) or only tomorrow evening so there’s no sunny day after fertilizing?

As close as possible to the rainproofing.

You need to avoid having the fertilizer remain undissolved on the delicate, young grass blades for a long time, as it is harmful. The fertilizer can "burn" the grass.

And the soil needs water. A lot of water. Tomorrow, I will take two pictures of our lawn, which is exactly two weeks old today. I have watered it thoroughly, and it has rained quite a bit.

I would also leave the weeds alone; the lawn will push them out as long as it is mowed regularly.

All right, thanks for the information. So you wouldn’t remove the small plants (weeds) at all? They will go away on their own if I understood you correctly?

Last year, two weeks before the severe drought, I temporarily planted grass seed over an area but didn’t water it enough.

By temporarily, I mean the ground was well-layered, sifted soil (it used to be topsoil from a field), and I knew we would have to dig over the area extensively with an excavator this year. Because of that, I used inexpensive seed, didn’t work very carefully, and watered too little out of frugality. At first, it mostly looked like I was just mowing weeds.
