That may be true.
We could have afforded a double garage of that size, we have enough money.
But why?
The rental apartment we had back then also included a carport (from the same carpenter) built more simply (no sandwich panels, no storage room, no two-tone powder-coated metal sheets—currently it looks like profiles in RAL 9007 and is white on the inside—no roof edge trim or Z-profiles at the base, etc.).

We were extremely satisfied (after seven years) with that carport. No wear and tear, no maintenance, no repainting or varnishing, nothing. Simply maintenance-free.

Unfortunately, it goes directly towards the extra repayment. That way, I'll be finished 2 years earlier.

A double garage is theft-proof, frost-resistant, stormproof, suitable for working in, and free of martens.

When I look around my housing development, 90% of those who have garages still park outside overnight. But that’s also because they don’t have basements and everything gets cluttered.
