do you need a building permit / planning permission for a carport and a garden shed? We are planning to build a carport and have heard from neighbors that you have to apply for a permit. Is that really the case? It’s just a carport after all. The same question applies to the planned garden shed. Do you also need a permit for that? Thanks in advance for your information!
Best regards, Janni 🙂

I only know that in Germany, a building permit / planning permission is required for a carport if the respective federal state mandates it. Therefore, there are no uniform regulations. But if the neighbors say that a permit is needed, then that will probably apply in your case as well.

hello jannie,
in most federal states, you need a building permit / planning permission, that much I can tell you. in some cases, you even need the neighbors' approval. that’s why it’s very important that you check with the relevant building authority before starting construction!

thanks first of all for your contributions. In the meantime, I have gathered more detailed information. Fortunately, I don’t need to ask my neighbors. I will apply for the building permit / planning permission during the week. Then nothing will stand in the way of my building project. We have already purchased the building kit. Now it just needs to be assembled. 😉
Best regards
