ᐅ Carport/Garage Width – Is 2.50 meters sufficient, or is that too narrow?

SkyfireHello everyone,
In addition to the 4-meter-wide (13 feet) garage, we are planning a carport for a second vehicle. Together, we have a total of 6.5 meters (21 feet) available for the garage and carport, but our main focus is on the garage since we don’t have a basement and need storage space.
So, width is the limiting factor here. Unfortunately, for the carport, we can’t exceed 2.5 meters (8 feet) in width, with a length of 6 meters (20 feet). The carport will be located between the garage and the house, so it will be enclosed by walls on both sides.
Is 2.5 meters (8 feet) wide enough for a carport, and is it still reasonably practical to get in and out of the car there? Or would it be better to skip the carport altogether?
Do you have any other suggestions?
We are not very broad people in the household, and the vehicle is a Golf 7.
Thank you very much for your help.

Drive into a parking garage and see how well you can maneuver in the parking spaces. I think the parking spaces are about 2.20 m (7 feet) wide...
We built a double carport without a central support, with a drive-through width of 5.80 m (19 feet). That works quite well! In my opinion, it shouldn’t be much narrower than that...

Simply calculate it!
A Golf with side mirrors is about 2.05m (6.7 feet) wide. If you leave about 10cm (4 inches) of space on the right, that leaves roughly 45cm (18 inches) on the driver’s side (35cm (14 inches) plus 10cm (4 inches) from the mirror) before the door hits the wall. Can you park straight in, or do you have to angle in a bit? That’s too little space for me!
So why not just make the garage 6.5m (21 feet) wide for two cars? With overlapping clearance for opening doors, everything becomes much easier. Obviously, it costs more, but the usability is significantly better.

We cannot build wider because of the heat pump and the ventilation system.
We have a total width of 6.50 meters (21 feet 4 inches) available for the garage and carport. We would like the garage to be 4 meters (13 feet 1 inch) wide for one car and some storage space.
That leaves 2.50 meters (8 feet 2 inches) for the carport.

Where is the storage planned? Next to the car? With a garage width of 4m (13 feet), the interior space is only about 3.5–3.6m (11.5–12 feet). There isn’t much room if you want to get in and out of the car comfortably.
