Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Precast walls – is that what’s called a "prefabricated basement"? It’s probably much cheaper than a traditional basement built "stone by stone." How does that compare to a basement that’s "poured and formed on site"?

Do you also have heated basement rooms, and how do you insulate the concrete walls?

In terms of cost, the masonry option is actually a bit cheaper, since there’s quite a lot of steel reinforcement in the walls. However, we used waterproof concrete (WU concrete) and a bitumen tanking membrane because we’re building on a slope and have groundwater pressure. The interior walls are made of calcium silicate blocks. The basement has full living quality standards (including the garages). The exterior is insulated with 16 cm XPS (6 inches).

@Mellina Which brand of windows are you using?

@Muc1985 As far as I know, we ordered the windows from the carpenter and metalworker... We also looked into Skyframe, but it was definitely over budget.

Actually not, even though your guess is probably quite accurate.

I visited the construction site in person again today. By now, the trees have been defoliated enough to allow a clear long-distance view.

Concrete foundation with window openings; earth mound, tarps, and construction work on the lakeshore.
