Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Why would anyone still need roller blinds then?

God knows. That’s why I’m asking.
With roller blinds, you can probably get the room almost 100% dark. Shutters probably not, and also with Venetian blinds less dark than with roller blinds? It really depends on your requirements (for example, shift workers who need a completely dark room).

My husband wired and programmed all the roller shutters in the house.
The problem is, if he ever gets sick or passes away before me (which thankfully isn’t an immediate concern), I’d be in a tough spot if the system fails. Then it would just stay dark.

That’s unfortunate!
But that’s what I meant. All the shutters are wired accordingly and connected via programming.
Standard electric roller shutters would usually have a switch per room or something similar. So you would have to press more than one button.

Whether you press a button or operate the roller shutter manually makes little difference, except for the appearance.

Central control is great on the ground floor.
We hardly use it on the upper floor.

I’ll step out of this conversation now.

Are you seriously saying that the speed of raising or lowering is too slow? The shading is meant to keep the heat out; we’re not on a highway...

King Song summed it up perfectly—life is made easier and more comfortable. I would never want to replace my external venetian blinds, not even with roller blinds. I can clearly see in residential areas how people have to sit almost in darkness behind their roller blinds on the south side during the day just to avoid the heat... great... they’ve achieved their goal.

I always thought it had to be 100% dark to sleep, but that’s not necessary. If you’re tired, you’ll fall asleep anyway, and humans adapt to everything over time.

But to each their own. Visually, this type of webbing tape is, for me, an absolute fail in the 21st century, though everyone has their preferences. As far as I know, such tapes are no longer allowed on larger windows because of the pulling load.
