ᐅ Advantages and Disadvantages: External Venetian Blinds or Roller Shutters?

Hello!
We are considering whether to choose Venetian blinds or roller shutters.
Originally, I preferred roller shutters because they seem to offer better burglary protection. However, an architect advised us against this, saying that roller shutters can also be easily broken into. He believes that with almost the same level of burglary protection, Venetian blinds are much more comfortable and provide greater flexibility.
So far, we have only had roller shutters or interior blinds, so we lack direct comparisons.

Do you also think that roller shutters are not significantly "safer" than Venetian blinds?
Can you think of other pros and cons?

We have roller shutters because the venetian blinds are too vulnerable to the wind.

Since nearly every room has a second window on a different exterior wall or facing a different direction, and during the summer the roller shutters usually don’t need to be fully closed, it is never completely dark.

Thank you for your replies.

If the external blinds need to stay closed during strong winds, that is already a disadvantage for us, as we often experience storms and sometimes forget to secure things.

If you think you need exterior venetian blinds (raffstores) somewhere, go for them. They’re great. Whether they’re necessary depends on the plot, orientation, sunlight exposure, and foot traffic. If you don’t see a need for them, I would stick with roller blinds: cheaper and more durable.

Use standard roller blinds in the sleeping area to achieve complete darkness.

We have both. Pay attention to the appearance: use the same colors if mixing (our roller blinds are a special color because of this) and avoid mixing too much. Our facade is mixed too: ground floor has raffstores, upper floor roller blinds, and otherwise one system per facade.

If roller shutters need to stay closed during strong winds, that is already a minus for us because we frequently have storms and often forget things

We have 2.6m (8.5 feet) wide roller shutters, and surprisingly, even during storms, nothing has rattled so far, just minimal noise. So I’m no longer worried about that. To prevent forgetting, we have a wind sensor, but I think it was unnecessary.

@boxandroof When did you build your house? Maybe roller shutters have become more durable in recent years? Or can the quality vary that much?

The Raffsfores were installed at the beginning of 2018; according to the installer, it is a "completely new rail system." I can’t imagine that it is much better than the previous model; I believe the change was more about the appearance. The manufacturer specifies a wind sensor only for widths above a certain size.
