Hello everyone,

We are currently wondering:

Should we install blinds or roller shutters on the floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor (patio exit, etc.)? In any case, they should be electric.

I honestly don’t see much added value in blinds, especially since I would even have to pay extra for them, which still doesn’t make sense to me.

Recently, we drove through two new housing developments, and really about 80% of the houses have blinds?? What do you think about this?

I just can’t believe it, but of course, this also raises the question: Are we thinking about this the wrong way? Are blinds maybe actually better?

Added value: You can control the appearance and the amount of light coming in. But otherwise, I don’t see any benefit, and I’m supposed to pay extra for that?

In my opinion, the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages...

I can’t tell you because I have never dealt with this medieval shading method for a modern house.

When building a house, of course, you have to watch every penny and always rely on the cheapest option, it will probably be difficult to compete with a plastic roller shutter, which over time discolors nicely and probably also warps.

Roller shutters are outdated methods that turn houses into dark caves. Sounds like something said at a casual Sunday morning gathering after the second beer.

You will have to agree with me that a Venetian blind, in terms of function, adjustability, and appearance from the inside, cannot be compared to a roller blind.

With a roller blind, it’s basically just dark or light. Of course, I can lower the roller blind halfway, but I’m still always looking at a dark plastic surface.

So apart from the price, I have not seen any advantage to a roller blind.

I would never install roller blinds in a modern house with modern floor-to-ceiling windows and large glass areas.

And just like a manual strap, a roller blind feels like a relic of the past to me...

This is really something else here. Alessandro, you don’t have to convince anyone of your opinion. People are allowed to have different views. I believe most people don’t see roller shutters as "plastic walls." I’m out of here; this is too much childishness for so early in the morning.

Sorry, but this statement is just as narrow-minded as claiming that roller shutters are generally outdated and no longer justified today.

There is a difference between "having to watch every cent twice over" and making decisions about which additional costs for which items make sense for you personally and whether they even offer added value for you.
I could afford an AMG, but I don’t want to drive that fast and generally find it too loud, so I prefer a regular E-Class and invest the money in other areas, for example, the house.
Does that mean to you that I have to "watch every cent twice over"?

That statement is true. For *you*.

The comment about the Middle Ages was obviously an exaggeration.
Roller blinds definitely have their purpose. I personally use them in some rooms.

My arguments were also related to the original question from the OP, who wants to equip the floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor (patio door) with roller blinds. Of course, everyone can do as they please, but I probably won’t understand it...

And according to the initial post, it clearly comes down to money here.

@Ben-man: The level of discussion here is perfectly fine. I’m not trying to convince anyone either. Apparently, the OP is still considering this, otherwise they wouldn’t be asking in a public forum.
