Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I’ve never really understood why people lower their shutters in the evening.
And I find the slow rattling sound of electric shutters really annoying.
Mine are built-in and manual (in an older building) and almost always kept up. Venetian blinds would probably be great on the west side, maybe if I replace the windows someday...

To be honest, I wouldn’t want to miss this anymore. It’s a rather dull July morning, I leave home with the exterior blinds fully open, sit at work, and then the cloud cover breaks. The sun shines brightly, and my blinds automatically lower, adjusting the slat angle to allow a clear view outside while minimizing solar heat gain. When I come home in the afternoon, the house is pleasantly shaded. Apart from the blinds, the control system only cost me 25€ each... and the house stays bright and welcoming but cool...

Yes, these are definitely great for thermal insulation in summer; that’s exactly why I would like to have them.

To actually control them all electrically at the same time, they first need to be linked together in some form.
Oh, you clueless one. Consider yourself lucky to have been spared.

All of them are operated from the inside using a crank. It’s quick and convenient. If there had been an (affordable) electric option, we probably would have chosen it. But you can’t have everything.

Okay. So practically, you don’t have a roller blind anymore?

Is the difference in “cold insulation” at night between roller blinds and shutters still relevant with modern triple-glazed windows? Probably not, right?

@KingSong do you usually still have additional roller blinds with venetian blinds?

Why would you need blinds on top of that?
