Hello everyone,
I’m curious how often you use your roller shutters and how much added value they provide for you.
At the moment, we hardly ever use ours, and after renovating our house, I can’t see why that would change (especially since the energy-saving aspect will almost disappear).
So, I’m considering leaving out the roller shutters (one less thermal bridge) and instead installing decorative, non-functional shutters.
Best regards
SoL

In a passive house, cooking should be possible in summer, right?
We have external venetian blinds and use them during the summer to block heat and glare during the day. At night and especially in winter, they serve as privacy screens from dusk onward.
In new housing developments, the neighbor’s window is often quite close, and it can take 5-10 years for gardens to grow dense enough for screening.

Jurassic13513 Feb 2023 19:43We use ours in the bedrooms every night. But this definitely varies from person to person, depending on what you need or are used to for sleeping. We prefer it to be as dark as possible. In the summer, we also use them during the day to protect against heat. For us, this was a factor when choosing the house; without them, it would have been a drawback. So the added value is very high for us. However, our neighbors, for example, don’t have any and seem perfectly happy without them. If you haven’t missed them so far, chances are you won’t in the future either.
In winter, we use them daily, in summer never. And actually only the windows facing the street, because otherwise it’s so easy to look inside.
