PamikoHello,
we still have a small portion of the contingency buffer left for a little extra feature.
We have the choice between the following two options, and we want to pick one:
- Exterior venetian blinds (also called louvered blinds) on two fixed floor-to-ceiling window units next to the front door (south-facing, no roller shutters, frosted glass). Cost including control system and wind sensor is about 1350€ (approximately $1,450).
- Fingerprint scanner on the front door. Total cost is about 1200€ (approximately $1,290).
We are having a hard time deciding. Both have advantages, and we could also choose to skip both if needed.

Hmm, the south-facing orientation definitely supports the use of external venetian blinds. But who actually lowers the blinds at the entrance? Especially since I assume you wanted to achieve a visual effect in the entrance area with the transparent glass. How large is the glass area or the covering? It might be possible to do without the wind sensor. Especially on the ground floor, for smaller sizes, I find it unnecessary.
Thank you for the answers. The buffer is still there. This is really about deciding between the two options. We set ourselves the goal beforehand not to have everything and established a budget for such things.
According to the plans, the two windows are 1.01 meters (3 ft 4 in) wide and 2.40 meters (7 ft 10 in) high. Behind them is the staircase.
Is it really possible to do without a wind sensor on the external venetian blinds? It costs over 300€ here.
Further opinions are welcome.
