Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I also always thought it had to be completely dark to sleep, but it doesn’t. If you are tired, you will fall asleep anyway. Besides, people get used to everything...

I think everyone’s sleep is different. It’s just like taste. Some people aren’t bothered at all by visible straps and save the money for an automatic roller blind system, which might have its first motor or electrical problems after 5-10 years, requiring maintenance costs. Others can sleep deeply and restfully with 20-30% daylight, while some—due to shift work or simply because everyone is different / individual—need almost complete darkness.

That is true to some extent, but just look at the people living next to the church. At first, they wondered how anyone could sleep next to church bells, but after living there for a while, they don’t even notice them anymore... It’s all a matter of getting used to it and personal attitude.
I’m a good example myself.
In the past, I had to pull the roller blind all the way down for complete darkness; now I even take naps with the venetian blinds^^

However, there is a distinction between (a) deep and restorative sleep (at night or between night shifts, for example, during the day in darkened rooms) and (b) a nap or so-called power nap with 30-40% or more daylight (dimmed by whatever).

But now I'll also step out of this discussion. Someone should post some pictures again. At the moment, construction sites in Germany are probably on hold due to the freezing temperatures, right?

To refocus attention on the main topic – house pictures – here is a brief pictorial progress update from our project. The exterior basement walls have been successfully erected.

Concrete shell of a building with walls; wooden battens lie on the excavation pit, houses in the background.

They have finally started installing the windows at my place... I hope the house will be weather-tight by Christmas, there are only two weeks left anyway :

Unfinished construction project: Large window front, scaffolding outside, insulation panels, view of the lake.

Unfinished interior construction site with steel frame, railings, and sea view.
