Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I just received some new photos since the last of the scaffolding was removed earlier today. I think we chose the right house.

I like the large windows... what personally bothers me is the building in the background; it somehow distracts from the overall view... well, you can’t have everything.

@Tina mit K Your living room is wonderful, both inside and the view! For a bungalow, a great idea with the return stair. (In southern Germany, we call it Wiederkehre; I’m not sure what the correct term is elsewhere.)

It’s surprising that this still happens nowadays... unbelievable

I actually find it more unbelievable how arrogant some people are here. Some build themselves a nice house for a lot of money, and you act as if it’s a third-rate place just because it has surface-mounted roller shutter controllers. My goodness, some seem to live in a kind of alternate reality—that’s what I find unbelievable. Sometimes people really should think a bit before posting. Most people in Germany live in small average rental apartments, and whether you believe it or not, often without KNX, without a double garage, without recessed ceiling lights, without glass railings, and all those things that nowadays apparently have become absolutely essential.

Some things are simply outdated—there’s no denying that. Nobody installs exposed wiring in the living room anymore (at least, that’s what I assume). On the other hand, I find the criticism of the roller shutter controllers rather minor. Maybe the criticism is a bit insensitive when it comes to a new build, but I also think it’s equally unfair to silence someone when they share their (not entirely unjustified) opinion.
Apart from that, many supposedly outdated solutions sometimes turn out to be better, because Alexa doesn’t immediately order a dollhouse just because you want to raise the roller shutter.

It certainly would not have been a big effort to phrase that in a less arrogant way.

I am fully aware that surface-mounted belt winders are generally outdated in new constructions. Most people use electrical controls anyway... which I deliberately wanted to avoid. Currently, we also have surface-mounted belt winders, and I simply don't notice them, so it doesn't bother me. They work, and that's enough. Whether others find this incredible or not is quite irrelevant to me... after all, it’s my house, and I don’t like everything others do either.
