Well, when I think about the quotes I received from landscape contractors for our house on the slope, none were under 35,000-40,000 euros. Currently, I will probably need less than 50% of that. Okay, it takes time and patience, but when you work outside, you often end up talking with your neighbors and so on.
Oh, there’s still plenty left to plant, weed, and decorate—things we feel confident doing ourselves. For example, we’re considering painting the white garage light gray, except for the doors. This light gray is almost silver. My wife wants to plant bay laurel on the embankment. A little herb garden too—dill, parsley, and so on.
We really can’t do paving or similar work ourselves. Instead of using unlicensed labor, we’d rather hire Joe; we know his company, he always does a good job, and although he’s not the cheapest, he is reasonably priced.
Today was kitchen installation day. It got a bit out of hand. The installer came alone because his colleague was sick and only got half the job done. I told him, “Quality over speed, please.” What he did assemble looks good. The IKEA delivery also seems to be complete. So, tomorrow I’ll have to arrange a follow-up appointment with IKEA as soon as possible. At least we have documented the additional work needed and what still has to be done. It will work out. It always does. Karsten

We are facing the same issue right now. 33,000€ – 50,000€ from landscaping contractors is beyond our budget. We are considering what we can do ourselves, but have no experience. I’m especially concerned about the earthworks, though I am fairly handy and could manage some of it myself.
