Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

@Otus11 very nice and harmonious, the facing brick looks great.
Is this a catalog home or a custom design?

It looks really strong. The exterior lights fit very, very well, creating a nice overall impression!

Is this a catalog house or custom designed?

Thank you very much.
The concept is mine; executed with a local general contractor (GC).

There were two reference designs that we adapted to our needs (especially for the corner plot):
** Baurmann Dürr – Kirchfeld Residential House, Karlsruhe
** Bub Architects – Blankenese House (mainly the outdoor terrace there).

Both originals are houses with basements.

The challenging part for us was the three lift-and-slide door windows on the upper floor, corner installation, with blinds, laminated safety glass (VSG), and glass railings.

Conclusion:
A raised terrace like this should ideally be built together with the shell construction; the GC didn’t want to do it at the time and suggested the landscaper, but in hindsight, it would have made much more sense.

The outdoor lighting is from BEGA.
The brickwork is from Rusch bricks, Elbmarsch sorting.
This is still real craftsmanship and hard manual work.
Some daylight photos can be found somewhere in this thread.
The terrace slabs are greywacke, 100 x 50 x 4 cm (39 x 20 x 1.5 inches).

There is an open space in the middle front.
The central point is the staircase.
This is what it looks like inside:
Ground floor:

Modern wooden staircase with glass railing and stainless steel handrail in bright interior

Upper floor (with inner window to laundry and utility room):

Modern wooden staircase with glass railing and stainless steel handrail in bright interior.

This is how it looked in late summer 2017:

Two-story brick house with large window fronts, dark roof and building plot in front.

I really like this side section by the staircase! It works perfectly as a bench and/or for decoration. From the outside, it’s not really my style, but of course, that’s always a matter of personal taste.

@Otus11 ...from the pictures you can see: cool house, impressive! Budget-wise, probably also quite high-end. I would like the staircase like that too, great!

My inner perfectionist would go crazy every day with the misaligned windows on the upper floor (OG). But the staircase is really beautiful!
