Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, with sand-lime bricks the exterior walls are almost always 17.5cm (7 inches), inside there are some that are also 17.5cm (7 inches) and 11.5cm (4.5 inches). These are sand-lime plan bricks.

I am currently working on the electrical installation. There is a DIN standard specifying allowable chase depths and widths without a structural assessment. This becomes challenging with KNX in 17.5cm (7 inches) walls and impossible with 11.5cm (4.5 inches) walls if I understand correctly. Or does the structural engineer usually provide assessments for all wall chases in such constructions?

Nonsense, no structural engineer cares about that or will ever double-check the calculations. You can overdo everything, cut it in, and that’s fine.

@R.Hotzenplotz: Controlled residential ventilation in series? I hope telephone line sound attenuators were installed?

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery using metal ducts? I would be concerned about condensation issues. Zehnder did not discontinue the metal isobox without reason.

Yes, there are indeed standards for the depth of chases (do other types of blocks not have these?).
We don’t have controlled residential ventilation, yet chases were still made in our building without any issues, even with an 11.5cm (4.5 inch) wall. It’s just harder to cut due to the density of the blocks.

For ducts installed within the screed (inside the thermal envelope), I wouldn’t worry about this. The temperature difference between the air and the duct surface is unlikely to be consistently high enough to cause significant condensation.
