Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

The rooms are not individually controlled, and the hallways do not have their own heating circuits either (due to lack of space). Here as well, all pipes are installed to maintain 10cm (4 inches) of water velocity, and the room is heated uniformly like all other rooms.

In the hallway, you do have 10cm (4 inches) of water velocity, but there is no separate heating circuit where the temperature drops along the running meters of heating pipe. Instead, consistently "hot" supply pipes run through the hallway. In my opinion, these should be insulated to prevent local overheating.

But since the screed is already installed, it's as it is now. However, this might be something for future homeowners to keep in mind.

Why should the largest installation spacing be chosen in the coldest room (basement)? I don’t see the reasoning behind that.

Since the basement is not exposed to freezing outdoor temperatures in winter but rather to a fairly constant 10°C (50°F) due to the surrounding soil, the pipe spacing can be larger here.

What would you, as a homeowner, suggest to the heating contractor as a “preference” for the underfloor heating? I’m not very familiar with this topic, and as of now, I would say: “Please lay the loops as close together as possible so that the supply temperature can be kept low.”

Since you cannot tell by looking at the heating installer whether they are competent, just ask if they would carry out the work based on plans from an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering firm you have hired. Then commission the firm with the desired room temperatures and the request for the lowest possible flow temperature.

Unfortunately, due to working from home, I have to close my studio.
Working from home + children + open space don’t really go well together 🙄:p

It's a shame if that gets closed. Instead, imagine placing something like the Alcove Cabin by the Bouroullec brothers there. It provides sound insulation and you’re not immediately visible.
