hampshire15 May 2021 08:09@Alessandro: Is the extension to the lovely gallery intended for soundproofing or to keep visitors out? Will your workspace be there permanently?
Soundproofing: This can be solved with furniture; the suggestion was not a joke.
Keeping visitors out: A simple solution is privacy screens.
Soundproofing and keeping visitors out: A combination of the above.
Last resort: Renovation.
If only temporary: Use nearby office space. This is much cheaper.
Another alternative, if the property size allows: A cool garden office.

Unfortunately, due to working from home, I have to close my studio.
Working from home + kids + open space doesn’t work out very well 🙄:p
That’s really a shame. It looks great. I have always been a big fan of those open gallery areas with a "office nook" in show homes. The light and airy open space feeling is really nice.
Personally, I would never have built it like that, as I am a bit old-fashioned and prefer clearly separated living and working areas with doors.
I’m curious to see the final result! With over 10,000 you can definitely achieve something. Is it going for an industrial/loft style? Black steel frames with built-in glass panes?
We also have a similar open gallery corridor with a large atrium. A secondary workspace was planned there as well. Sound carries all the way up.
I wouldn’t make the separation permanent at this point... What about fabric? Maybe try a tried-and-true solution and hang thick brocade curtains. I’m not saying it necessarily fits the style or that I personally like it—but perhaps it wouldn’t look too bad, especially if you can roll them back in the evening 🙂
